Crispy Honey Garlic Salmon Bites
Prep time: 10 minutes · Cook time: 12–15 minutes · Total time: About 25 minutes · Serves: 3–4
Ingredients
For the salmon
- 1 lb skinless salmon, cut into bite-sized cubes
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons neutral cooking oil
For the honey garlic sauce
- ¼ cup honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
For serving
Steamed rice, cucumber salad or stir-fried vegetables, lime wedges, sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
How to Make Honey Garlic Salmon Bites
1. Prepare the salmon
Pat the salmon dry with paper towels. Cut it into evenly sized cubes so every piece cooks at the same speed. Season lightly with salt and black pepper, then toss with cornstarch until the pieces are lightly coated.
2. Make the sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil and red pepper flakes. Keep the sauce ready before cooking because the salmon browns quickly.
3. Sear the salmon
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the salmon in a single layer, leaving space between the pieces. Cook for 2–3 minutes on the first side until golden, then turn and cook another 2–3 minutes. Continue turning gently until browned and cooked through.
4. Add the honey garlic glaze
Lower the heat to medium and pour the sauce into the skillet. Simmer for 1–2 minutes, stirring carefully, until the sauce becomes glossy and slightly thickened. Return the salmon to the pan if you removed it, and toss gently until every bite is coated.
5. Garnish and serve
Remove from the heat immediately so the honey does not burn. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot over steamed rice with cucumber salad, vegetables and lime wedges.
Important Cooking Tips
- Use skinless salmon for easy cutting and even coating.
- Pat the salmon completely dry before adding cornstarch for better crispiness.
- Do not overcrowd the skillet; cook in batches if necessary.
- Add the honey sauce only after the salmon is browned to prevent burning.
- Cook salmon until it reaches 145°F/63°C internally and flakes easily.
- For extra spice, add more red pepper flakes or a drizzle of chili oil.
Best Side Dishes
Serve these salmon bites with jasmine rice, fried rice, cucumber salad, steamed broccoli, stir-fried vegetables or a simple cabbage slaw. For a lighter meal, use cauliflower rice or serve the salmon over mixed greens.
Easy Variations
Air-fryer salmon bites
Coat the salmon with cornstarch and a little oil. Air-fry at 400°F/200°C for 8–10 minutes, turning halfway. Toss with warmed honey garlic sauce just before serving.
Gluten-free version
Use gluten-free tamari instead of regular soy sauce and check that the cornstarch and other ingredients are certified gluten-free.
Lower-sugar version
Reduce the honey to 2 tablespoons and add a little extra rice vinegar, garlic and chili for balance.
Storage and Reheating
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave until hot. The salmon is best fresh because the coating softens after refrigeration.
Save this quick salmon recipe for your next easy dinner—it is crispy, flavorful and family-friendly.
