Editorial Policy

Last updated: August 10, 2026

This policy explains how Recipe Haven plans, prepares, reviews, publishes, and updates recipes and cooking content.

Our editorial principles

  • Useful: Content should answer a real cooking or meal-planning need.
  • Clear: Instructions should be readable, logically ordered, and specific enough to follow.
  • Accurate: Verifiable claims should be supported by reliable evidence.
  • Honest: We do not invent credentials, testing results, personal experiences, or endorsements.
  • Independent: Commercial relationships do not determine our editorial conclusions.
  • Correctable: We review credible error reports and update content when warranted.

Topic selection

We choose topics based on reader usefulness, seasonal relevance, common cooking questions, and gaps in our existing recipe collection. Search demand may help us understand what readers need, but it does not replace editorial judgment.

Recipe and article preparation

Writers and editors are expected to review ingredient lists, measurement units, method order, timing, temperature, yield, storage guidance, substitutions, and likely reader questions. Our detailed standards are described in the Recipe Testing & Review Process.

Sourcing and fact-checking

When content includes technical, nutritional, historical, scientific, or safety-related claims, we prefer primary or authoritative sources such as government agencies, universities, recognized professional bodies, peer-reviewed research, and original manufacturer instructions. We avoid treating another recipe blog as proof of a factual claim. See our Fact-Checking Policy.

Authorship and accountability

Content prepared or reviewed collaboratively may be published under the Recipe Haven Team byline. A byline identifies who is accountable for the published content; it is not a claim of credentials beyond those stated on the author page.

Food safety, allergens, and nutrition

We aim to include relevant handling, cooking, cooling, and storage reminders, but readers remain responsible for following current public-health guidance and adapting recipes to their circumstances. We cannot guarantee that any recipe is free from a particular allergen. Nutrition information, when shown, is an estimate and may vary substantially. See our Disclaimer.

Technology and editorial assistance

Technology may assist with research organization, outlining, proofreading, formatting, or idea development. Automated output is not treated as an authoritative source. Content must be reviewed for clarity, consistency, obvious safety concerns, unsupported claims, and alignment with this policy before publication.

Commercial relationships

Affiliate links, advertising, free products, or sponsorships must be disclosed when they create a material connection. Payment does not guarantee coverage or a positive opinion. More information appears in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Updates and corrections

We may revise content to improve instructions, replace broken links, reflect updated guidance, or correct errors. Material errors are handled under our Corrections Policy.
